Fancy your face on a postage stamp?

Dear Comrades,

No wishful thinking, this. The 'My Stamp' initiative by the postal department actually makes this possible.
Whoever said that you had to be someone great or someone late to feature on a postage stamp? Now the postal department is all set to give you your very own personalized stamp of greatness, and quite literally so.
Launched last week, the My Stamp initiative gives everyone a chance to have their thumb-sized picture imprinted on stamps, and these stamps are not just meant to add to your philately collection. They can be used as postage on any postal communication sent from your end.
"It adds a personalized touch to letters or invitations you send to your loved ones. All you have to do is to apply for 'My Stamp' and submit a photograph of yours at the Philatelic Bureau. You can even get photographed there itself. One must also carry an identity proof with them," explains S Damodaran, deputy chief post master, Anna Road Head Post Office.
Obviously, this initiative has many from the city excited about the project. Vishakh Raghav, an IT employee wants to send his daughter's birthday invitations using the My Stamp scheme. He says, "I have already thought of getting my two-year-old daughter's picture. It will be a memorable thing to do for her birthday this year."

Ashok Kumar Anchalia, a senior advocate at the Madras High Court seconds Vishakh, "I have got my entirely family My Stamped! The pleasant memories of an event or a person lingers longer time when you see it on a postage stamp."

The Head Post Office in Chennai, which has already received as many as 300 orders from all over Tamil Nadu since the launch of this initiative, has many young takers also. Chinmayi M is a post-graduate student at a city college and an enthusiastic stamp collector. Claims Chinmayi, "I have been collecting stamps from my childhood, and have a wide collection of stamps from all over the globe. Now, with the introduction of 'My stamp', I can have my very own stamp. It will be a real high to have my stamp sharing space on the album with all those great luminaries."
Though the demand is high, the postal department is making sure the applicant gets the order he places without much delay, and at a reasonable price. "One sheet has 12 stamps, and it costs ` 300 (denominations of ` 5 each), and is delivered within a week from the time the application is processed. They can either collect it from the counter, or, for a fee, it can be delivered to them by post," adds Damodaran.
